LAKE COUNTY MEDICAL DIRECTOR CONDEMNS WAUKEGAN LAYOFFS

"As the EMS Medical Director and chairman of Vista Medical Center Emergency Room, I have the honor of working closely with the men and women of Waukegan Fire Department. Each day, 911 calls bring these heroes to the doorstep of the good citizens of this neighborhood. I have repeatedly witnessed life saving measures performed on critically ill patients that would have perished or suffered grave disability.

Frequently the most important factor in determining good outcomes is time. The precious minutes that it takes to deliver their care and transport to the hospital are of paramount importance.
Cutting back on fire dept based EMS would represent a threat to public safety and would have dire consequences.

If your family member was suffering a heart attack or stroke, transporting them to Vista's Chest Pain and Stroke Center of Excellence by well trained professionals in a timely fashion should be the assumption not the concern."
